How can I
get it cheaper and what will make it more
expensive?
-The
boiler is the main cost that can be
cut down on; some are £500 up to £1200
depending on what you want.Just like cars,
there is a fiesta and there is a mercedes,it
all depends on what you want.
-There are two bands of boiler Band A and
Band B.
-Band A is cheaper to run as it burns the
gas more efficiently, but is more expensive,
Band B costs more to run, much more noisy
but cost less.
-To our opinion ,Worchester bosh- which is
a Band A boiler(£800)is one of the best
boilers on the market, with a wireless room
stat (£150), but we are willing to fit
any make or model. We also recommend that
we buy the boiler, mostly because of regulation
and getting the right parts to cut down on
the amount of time it takes to install them.
-If you already have TRV valves on your radiators,
then they don't have to be changed. This would
save £35 per radiator. If you don't
know what a TRV valve is, do a quick search
online.
-One thing you should never cut out of the
job is the power flush. This prolongs the
life on the boiler and is a condition of most
boiler manufacturers before they will honour
the warrantee. Some would even test your water
quality before any work is done to the boiler.
We include a powerflush as standard with all
our installs.
- Inline scale inhibitor:
they are about £35 each and help with
scale in hard water areas. Manufacturers prefer
them because the boiler tends to last longer
and break down less, but you don't have to
install one.
-
Electrics: If you have an old system
we would need to make some upgrades to comply
with the minimum standard. If your system
is relatively new this work would not be needed.
How do you know if you comply? The circuit
the boiler is on has to have a RCD breaker
protecting it. You don't have to have one
but it is highly recommended for your own
safety, anyone else and your boiler. Some
boiler faults would not cause so much damage
to the boiler circuits if the electrics were
correct in the first place.
- Correct gas pipe size:
This is a problem with older installations
or flats where the gas meter is more than
5 meters away from the boiler. The pipe should
be 22mm for the whole run from meter to boiler,
when it’s run for too long or in a smaller
pipe than 22mm the pressure tends to be to
low. We can fit the boiler but it cannot be
turned on by us, because of regulation. We
can test this before work starts but the current
boiler needs to be able to run. The cost of
changing pipes varies greatly depending on
how much pipe needs to be replaced.
How
much will it cost?
The
price is based on the:
amount of work to be done + cost of parts
+ upgrades etc.
Example
1:
Swapping
one combi boiler for another
£550
Cost of a cheaper boiler(heatline) + parts
£650 Labour
£1300 Total
Example
2:
Swapping
one combi boiler for another
£800
Cost of boiler (Worchester bosh) + parts
£650 Labour
£1450 Total
Example
3:
System conversion. That is changing from a
gravity fed system with a cylinder. To a combi
boiler which is much easier and cheaper to
run.
£800
Cost of boiler for a Worchester bosh
£1800 Labour
£70 Upgrading 2x TRV valves on radiators
£2670 Total
Example
4:
Moving
existing boiler 2 meters to the side
£200
Parts
£400 Labour
